Mandarin Expectations: In order to succeed in Mandarin lessons, students are required to dedicate at least 15 minutes a day.

Today, Grade 8 enjoyed a field trip to Sangrok martial arts training center in Oslo. The Grade 8 students kept a positive attitude and participated in activities related to Chinese Wushu martial arts.

Students are required to work in groups to design a school uniform and make a video for their summative assessment. They were really engaged and excited to present their group work.

This week students wrote a poem about any subject we have learned in Chinese and started to work together for their group work.

This week students have learned vocabulary about facial appearance, such as 头, 头发, 眼睛,鼻子,耳朵,嘴巴. Students have practised to form different sentences with these new words. Students are encouraged to practise with the websites of Quizlet at home.

This week students were engaged in different activities requiring rhythm and coordination to review vocabulary from current and previous lessons, which allowed students to gain confidence in speaking.

Students have learned how to say some clothes in Chinese this week, such as 裙子, 裤子,上衣,短裤,鞋子. They practised the new vocabulary with the different colours they learned. They also did a game to practise their new vocabulary named Brown bear, Brown bear what did you see. They really enjoyed it.

This week Grade 7 started the new unit. After introducing the unit, students have learned the new words on clothes. They also linked the new words to the knowledge they have learned, such as colours.

In order to help students understand better the rubric and summative assessment, Grade 8 did peer assessment for their Beijing opera mask work. It was nice to see most students work hard on it. After that they did end unit self-reflection.

This week students have been connecting the knowledge they are learning in this unit to the knowledge they have learned last unit, such as how to ask and tell the colors of different food. It is so nice to see that students are able to build the connection with little help.

On Monday the school celebrated the Chinese New Year. Grade 6, 7 & 8 presented an assembly on the theme of Chinese New Year and after that they taught the younger kids Chinese New Year traditions with different activities. At lunch time, they tasted some Chinese food which they really like. Grade 6, 7 & 8 did a fantastic job. It was a very successful celebration and everyone had a nice time. A big thanks to their engagement.

This week students painted their final masks according to the drafts they designed. Almost all the students completed their summative assessment within limited time. Well done.

Students have been learning a popular Chinese New Year song named Gong Xi Gong Xi.

Beijing opera is one of the most beautiful forms of art in China and it has about 200 years of history. This week students have been introduced the history of Beijing opera and the four main characters in the Beijing opera. Student have learned that facial painting is very important in Beijing opera.

Students have learned location words this week, such as 上, 下, 里. They practised these locations words with pictures. Students participated summative assessment and did self-assessment as well. Most students did a good job in their final tests.

This week, students were required to make a dialogue in groups on the food topic and role-played the dialogue with their classmates. They also used new vocabulary and sentence structures to write a short play with their group members. and performed them in front of the class.

Grade 8 has a special guest this week. Mr. Liu talked about Chinese food and his food adaption in Norway. Students really enjoyed it. With the help of Mr. Liu, students further developed their understanding of Chinese food and food culture in China.

In this week, students have learned to say the foods they like to eat, the foods they love to eat and the foods they want to eat as well. They are also able to talk about the foods they extremely love and dislike. Students have been practising different ways to express their preference.

Students will learn food and culture based on their discussions and interest for this unit. This week, they have learned an amount of vocabulary related to foods and drinks, such as   水, 饺子,水饺,包子,汉堡,薯条,香蕉,三文治 etc. They also played a role as a waiter or customer in a restaurant.

Students did summative assessment for unit one last week. They took a listening comprehension test and also performed their short plays in groups. I was impressed with students' improvement on their speaking and listening abilities. I recorded their voices when they performed their group work. Please enjoy.

Students have learned how to ask for /say of the week this week. They did some group work to practise what we have learned for this unit. They also learned to wish someone a happy birthday and sing a birthday song.
